Invited Talk by Xavier Moya on February 22

On Thursday, February 22, starting at 12:00, the auditorium of the Martina Casiano building (BCMaterials headquarters, Leioa) will be the scene of a new invited talk at our center.

The presentation will be given by Xavier Moya, professor of Materials Physics of the University of Cambridge. The talk’s title is “Barocaloric materials for zero-carbon heating and cooling”. Barocaloric materials represent a great alternative to current heating and cooling systems, as substitutes for natural gas and hydrofluorocarbons  (greenhouse gases).

Professor Moya is interested in phase transitions in functional materials whose structural, magnetic, electrical and thermal properties display strong coupling. His research focuses primarily on caloric materials for cooling applications and magnetoelectric materials for data storage. Dr Moya was awarded the Young Researcher in Experimental Physics Prize 2015 by The Spanish Royal Society of Physics, which is dedicated to “researchers of exceptional scientific talent aged under 35”.

Attendance at the talk is open to the public until the auditorium is full.
