Igor Irastorza, New Post-Doctoral Researcher

The BCMaterials Active and Smart Materials research line incorporates a new post-doctoral researcher. Igor Irastorza Epelde joins our center to work on the potential of the piezoelectric and magnetoelectric polymers polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) and polyhydroxybutyrate-valerate (PHVB) for spinal cord regeneration therapies.

Dr. Irastorza got his Degree in Biochemistry at the University of the Basque country (UPV/EHU). After gaining his PhD with summa cum laude, he obtained a Margarita Salas grant that he developed in the Electroactive Smart Materials group (Biomaterial section) of the Center of Physics in the University of Minho (Portugal). Irastorza’s expertise focuses on stem cells, cell reprogramming, biomaterials, and tissue engineering.

We want to give him our warmest welcome to the BCMaterials team.
