Professor Ludwig Schultz Seminar

Last thursday, on the tenth day of september, Professor Ludwig Schultz gave a talk about superconducting levitation at the Science and Technology Faculty of the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU). During the talk, he exposed different mechanisms of levitation by means of magnetic materials for urban transportation. The first mechanism consists on the employment of magnets to make the mean of transportation levitate.

BCMaterials meet Basque Country, Cantabria and Oviedo Universities (MAT2014)

Last Monday 20th of July the magnetic materials research groups from Basque Country, Cantabria and Oviedo met up in Unquera. They were received by the mayor of Val de San Vicente and the culture councillor. These groups, which have been working together for more than thirty years on joint projects about magnetic materials and their use, have focused their last years research on nanomaterials with biomedical uses and the use of these new materials on comunication technologies and new sensors.

MIT Associate Head of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, Caroline Ross, visits BCMaterials

Last Thursday, 2nd of July the Associate Head of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering of the MIT, Caroline Ross visited BCMaterials in relation to a collaboration between the two institutes in a patterning Project. The project focuses on the study of  self-assembly of block copolymers and developing of methods for templating self-assembly in order to form well-organized structures useful in nanoscale fabrication and devices.

New VSM installed at BCMaterials

VSMThe new Microsense 2 Tesla Vibrating Sample Magnetometer (VSM) installed at BCMaterials is a versatile instrument of high resolution (1 µemu) large temperature scan (77-1000K) and easy operation. The instrument is aimed to provide quick and reliable data on all magnetic materials synthesized and processed in BCMaterials, as Magnetic Shape Memory Alloys, Magnetic Nanoparticles, Nanostructured Magnetic Materials, Permanent Magnets  and Advanced Magnetic Materials for Sensors.
