New Successful Edition of Pint of Science Bilbao Outreach Talks
From May 18 to 20, a new edition of Pint of Science Bilbao once again transformed bars and everyday spaces across the city into vibrant meeting points between science and the public. As a co-organizer and sponsor of the event, BCMaterials warmly welcomes the success of this year’s edition, which brought together researchers, science communicators, and citizens for three days of inspiring discussions on some of today’s most relevant scientific challenges.
The venues Hika Ateneo, DaVinci, and Kubrick hosted a total of 18 talks, introducing audiences to a wide range of topics including artificial intelligence, quantum technologies, human–robot interaction, the fight against neurodegenerative diseases, and cutting-edge applications in materials science. This year’s edition also expanded its thematic scope by incorporating new topics related to the social sciences.
BCMaterials also in the talks programme
BCMaterials also contributed to the programme through the participation of one of its researchers. Our PhD researcher Daniel Doménech shared his work on magnetic materials with attendees through a talk focused on nanomagnetic highways — an emerging technology paving the way for a new generation of faster and more powerful data storage devices.
The talks attracted a strong audience and provided an accessible and engaging way to explore complex scientific concepts. The lively discussions and questions that followed each session also highlighted another of the festival’s key goals: fostering dialogue between science and society.
For BCMaterials, participating in initiatives such as Pint of Science reflects its ongoing commitment to open, accessible research that remains closely connected to society. The centre considers it essential to create spaces for dialogue that allow scientific knowledge to reach audiences beyond traditional academic environments and encourage stronger connections between researchers and the wider public.
More than 100 cities across Spain and 30 countries worldwide
The Bilbao edition was part of the broader Pint of Science festival, held simultaneously in more than 100 cities across Spain and in over 30 countries around the world.
BCMaterials would like to thank the Pint of Science Bilbao coordination team, the three participating venues, the 23 speakers who contributed to the programme, the national sponsors, and the local sponsors — Achucarro – Basque Center for Neuroscience and BCAM – Basque Center for Applied Mathematics — for helping make this edition possible.
