Horizon Europe info-days

The European Commission announces today the first edition of the Horizon Europe info-days, to take place online from 28 June to 9 July 2021. The 10-day event will give the opportunity to prospective applicants, and other stakeholders of EU research and innovation, to receive information and ask questions about the novelties, main funding instruments and processes of Horizon Europe. The 9 themes will take place following the Horizon Europe info-days

BCMaterials invited talk: Professor Omar M. Yaghi

We are pleased to announce the invited talk given by Omar Yaghi , Professor of Chemistry at  U.C. Berkeley about The Discovery of Covalent Organic Frameworks.   The synthesis of covalently-linked organic extended structures has been a long-standing objective. The fundamental problem is that attempts to link organic molecular building blocks into extended structures often led to intractable amorphous solids and ill-defined materials, thus impeding development of this field.

Fortnightly seminar online by Stefan Wuttke

25 Years of Reticular Chemistry by Stefan Wuttke The design and synthesis of materials is a cornerstone of synthetic chemistry. Since its discovery a quarter of a century ago, reticular synthesis of 2D and 3D extended crystalline porous metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) and covalent organic frameworks (COFs) has been added to the repertoire of synthetic chemists. In this talk, I wish to highlight the progress that has been made in the design and synthesis of these materials, show how their pores can further be functionalized, and how complexity can be introduced into their backbones.

Fortnightly seminar online: Architectures and materials for low cost chalcogenides based photovoltaic solar cells by David Payno & Magnetorheological elastomer-based materials and devices by Ander García

Architectures and materials for low cost chalcogenides based photovoltaic solar cells by David Payno Over the last decades, significant progress has been made in inorganic materials to enable them as next generation photovoltaic materials that can fulfil the green energy requirements.

Fortnightly seminar online: The effect of dopping in MSMAs by Natalia Río & Development of corrosion detectors and smart coatings for self-healing of corrosion damage by Adriana Gallardo

The effect of dopping in MSMAs by Natalia Río: Magnetic shape memory alloys (MSMAs) are an interesting class of smart materials characterized by undergoing macroscopic deformations when a pertinent stimulus is applied: temperature, stress and/or external magnetic fields. Since the deformation is rapid and contactless, this kind of materials are being extensively investigated for a wide range of applications, among which sensors and actuators outstand.
