Strong reinforcement for the advanced functional materials and surfaces line

Reyes Calvo BCMaterials

BCMaterials significantly reinforces its advanced functional materials and surfaces research line with the incorporation of a new Ikerbasque Research Associate, Dr. Reyes Calvo. At the same time as Calvo, postdoctoral researcher Lisa Almonte and predoctoral researchers Eudomar Henríquez and Juan David Cortés have joined BCMaterials.

Their work focuses on small materials and devices. Specifically, they will focus their research on the electrical, optical and optoelectronic phenomena that arise in low-dimensional condensed matter systems.

On the one hand, they will study the properties of inorganic Van der Waals materials when reduced to a few atomic layers, which offers unique opportunities for the development of two-dimensional devices. On the other hand, they will explore the properties of thin films of designed biomaterials that are promising for the creation of biocompatible nano- and microdevices, such as bioelectronic, flexible, “wearable” or implantable devices.

As director of these works, Reyes Calvo brings extensive research experience. She holds a PhD from the University of Alicante and carried out two postdoctoral research stays at University College London and Stanford University (USA).  For the latter she was a awarded a MSCI felowship.

After her time at CIC Nanogune as an Ikerbasque Research Fellow, she joined the University of Alicante as a professor in 2019 and created a research group focused on the study of 2D materials, biomaterials and their hybrid structures.

At BCMaterials we would like to extend our warmest welcome to both Reyes Calvo and the rest of the new researchers.
