BCMaterials Host of the BIOntier Project General Assembly

On April 1 and 2, BCMaterials headquarters hosted the second general assembly of the Horizon Europe BIOntier project, "BreakIng FrOntiers in Sustainable and Circular Biocomposites with High Performance for Multi-Sector Applications." Nearly 50 representatives from the 25 consortium entities attended the event. 12 different countries are represented in the consortium.
The meeting aimed to review the initial progress of the various work packages and the six use cases included in the project. BIOntier's goal is to develop the next generation of biocomposites for high-performance industrial applications in areas such as automotive, aerospace, the hydrogen economy, and water treatment.
“I think that, overall, it has been a very positive event for all the partners in the consortium. We were able to discuss and make progress on important aspects of the project to pave the way for the work in the coming months. And as for BCMaterials, as the host partner, it is a tremendous satisfaction to be able to work in person with the rest of the project scientists. Furthermore, we have been able to show them our work, our laboratories, and the capabilities that BCMaterials offers for the development of new, more sustainable functional materials,” notes BCMaterials Scientific Director Senentxu Lanceros-Méndez.
The BIOntier project is funded by the Horizon Europe program, has a budget of over €8 million, and a work plan through 2027 that should lead to product development with TRLs 6-7.
